Twitter Announces ‘Twitter Places’
06/15/10

Location-based social media isn’t a new concept, but Twitter Places could very well be the game changer that gets this idea flying. Imagine being at a sporting event and being able to search through a live stream of updates that is happening right there – or you’re at the mall and able to tap into what people are saying about a current sale.

One would imagine that some companies could effectively make use of this new technology to market their brand in new ways – perhaps advertising a special promotion that is only available to those who have tapped into the new ‘Twitter Places’ network.

We wouldn’t recommend using it everywhere, especially ininsecure locations or sooften that you open yourself up to stalking. But what we do know is that this will open up a world of new possibilities – wherever we are, from a subway to a ball game, concert to conference – will exist the ability to tap into an underlying conversation that is taking place. And that is a very cool thing.

Have a look at the Twitter Blog.
